9 social media marketing strategy to drive free traffic
Tweet this.

Today we shall be looking at how to attract free traffic to a new blog using the power of social media marketing strategies.

Producing top-notch content does not guarantee you readers, except you put up a strong marketing strategy to get to the audience.

No matter how good you may be as a blogger, nobody is going to notice your blog until you begin to market it.

This is hard, but it’s the truth.

Every brand new blog has little chance of being noticed with so many blogs contending for visibility out there.

The way to make your blog shine is to put up an aggressive marketing strategy to attract readers to it.

This is so important to your success as a blogger, that it’s worth mentioning again.

“ If you want to garner some attention and traffic then you have to market your blog. Don’t assume readers and viewers will turn up by magic.”

Are you really thinking of posting and posting new articles every day, and waiting till Google decides to smile at you by ranking your post on the front page before you get traffic to your site?

Don’t do it, because this waiting could be very long.

Let me tell you, in this blogging world, we have a lot of SEO crazy guys out there who are ready to do anything – be it white hats, grey hats or black hats SEO – to get front page ranking in google.

Trust me, you don’t want this to be your main preoccupation right now as a new blogger.

Hey, don’t get me wrong.

You are not to undermine SEO, you need it.  Besides, when you engage in social media marketing of your blog or business you enhance SEO ranking because you are sending out a brand signal to search engine that speaks to your brand validity, integrity, and constancy.

My point is, it’s a fierce and unfair competition for any new blogger to be competing with other bloggers that have years of experience on their side.

Social media is one of the most stress-free and profitable digital marketing platforms that can be used to increase your brand’s visibility.

This is why I strongly advocate social media marketing as your easiest and quickest means of traffic.

Take advantage of social media, by creating remarkable content and unleashing it to your followers to share for you.

Social media marketing strategy is extremely important for any serious blogger to ignore.

It’s potentially the best source of traffic for a new blog.

Posting links to your latest blog posts and remembering to make unique comments on the new content will entice your followers to follow the link. This is the surest way to develop a reliable, long-term following for a blog.

And, this is even made better if you have compelling content.

Social media is the traffic driver today, and there are a lot of networks to choose from.

Choose your social media network with your audience in mind. Twitter is great if you blog about business, as it allows you to easily connect with your audience. But if you’re running a photo or cooking blog, then focus more Pinterest and  Instagram. However, if you have the capability, work across all the networks.

Thankfully, these days there is also the advantage of smartphones that make it easy to work on social media.

Add social media engagement elements to your blog

This is great for getting your content shared. What do you do whenever you find a great content on a site? You want to share, right? And then, you find there are no share buttons. You get disappointed and move on.

This is a careless way to lose opportunities to share your well-crafted content and get readers.

Add social sharing buttons to your site and see your audience grow.

There are dizzying numbers of plugins to help you accomplish this. Here are three of the most popular ones you can use: Sumome, jetpack,  and shareholics.

Having social media buttons placed above, before, or after your post. Or a floating sidebar that follows your visitors as they scroll down your post makes it super easy for them to share your content.

Choose the plugin which supports the social media network relevant to your business and suits your blog style.

Whichever plugin you choose to use, you shouldn’t have any problem because they are free to install and incredibly easy to set up.

9 social media marketing strategies to drive free traffic to your new blog

  1. Write compelling content that gets read and shared.

Dedicate good time to crafting content that is useful to your readers. It’s a complete waste of time doing otherwise.

There’s no end to learning in blogging. I have of recent being studying the rules of copywriting and reading every article I can get my hands on about how to write powerful blog posts.

As I started implementing what I’m reading, I discovered I was getting more traffic to my blog.

One very strong area in crafting articles for the web is being able to craft a catchy headline for your post.

And a key lesson I learnt is from David Ogilvy, “the best headlines are those that promise the reader a benefit”

These headlines are emotional and attention-grabbing.

Which attracts readers and boost social shares.

What makes your headlines and content attractive?

It’s the ability to skillfully sprinkle your headlines and POWER WORDS!

Power words are not restricted to your headlines only, they can also be used to make your content pop, and nudge your readers to take action.

Examples are proof, shameless, perfect, instant, money back guaranteed, diabolical, exclusive, abuse,  debilitating,  paralysing,  advise, affordable, agony, fabulous, transient, disrupt, sabotage, forge, kill, best, free, flexible, affordable, custom….

Power words are not restricted to your headlines only, they can also be used to make your content pop,m and nudge your readers to take action.

  1. Automate your post.

If you’re dead serious about leveraging social media for traffic, you have no business working manually.  Otherwise, you’ll experience burnout too quickly.

Instead of posting manually, take advantage of social media tools available on the market. Such as buffer, tailwind, Hootsuite…

 3. Write irresistible introduction

Writing an irresistible introduction is critical to getting your readers’ attention, so you don’t send your readers on a flight the minute they land on your post.

Make your most salient points in your introduction, and let your post deliver on what the heading promises. Your introduction is where you lay out what you readers expect in the rest of the blog post.

Sometimes, revisiting and rewriting your introduction after you’ve written your blog post may be of immense benefit.

As this will help you not to miss writing in your introduction any important point you’ve stated in your blog post.

4. Engage on social media.

Now, this is where most bloggers get it wrong- not engaging. Social media is an engagement platform, not where you damp content and escape.

This problem has actually been made more rampant by social media automation tools.

Some users of these tools schedule content weeks and months ahead and never check in to see who is commenting, sharing, liking or following them.

This is a poor social media ethics.

I’ve had to stop sharing or liking some bloggers content because I didn’t even get a single appreciation for my continuous effort to spread their post.

Engaging is not difficult to do. Simply, like a retweet, reply a comment, give a reciprocal share and follow back.

Be social on social media by engaging more, and get more people sharing your content.

  1. Find your audience time zone to schedule your content

You can hit the social media jackpot if you correctly time when you share your posts.

We all want to post content at the right time it will hit our audience. Isn’t it? You have to expand your reach by uncovering when your audience is likely to be online.

Most brands and blog schedule post at a time that is not necessarily when their audience are online. For example, you may be in London and you have audience from New York, India, Nigeria, Canada… you can see here you have an audience overlap.

To understand the best time to target your audience, you have to know when they are active.

6. Use hashtags

Hashtags categorize your content, making it’s discovering easy on social media.

Whenever you add a hashtag to your post, it’s able to be indexed by social media and it becomes searchable and discoverable by users.

Failure to do this will result in a negative impact on your engagement.

Use trending hashtags that are relevant to your post. For example, if your post is about blogging use #blogging #bloggers. If writing on productivity, use #productivity #goals #success. These are hashtags that target your right audience.

  1. Share your post with a variety of different titles.

Share your post with different titles. And also, create different graphics for your social media with different titles, and call to action. Doing this enables you to split test and know which of your post is performing best in terms of traffic generation. This strategy allows you to know where to increase your effort in marketing.

  1. Join different social media groups

To further enhance the sharing of your post, I recommend you join your niche groups in your social media networks.

The failure to join groups in social media was one of the costly mistakes I made as a newbie blogger.

But when I did, I found the articles posted to niche groups got shared quickly and drove targeted traffic to my blog.

There are groups in different social media networks, and they virtually have the same purpose. Which is to collaborate, share each other’s content, and help each other.

You can find active groups on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram or any other social media networks to join.

9. Lastly, you can politely ask your readers to share your content.

While some will share, some will not. But there’s is no harm in giving it a try.

Conclusion

Social media marketing has strong advantages for a new blog or business. Put up a strong social media marketing strategy to improve your visibility and increase traffic to your blog.
